President’s Message:

Picture
Well, It’s that time again. The beginning of a new Chapter for the Howick Agricultural Society. I am excited to help lead our organization through this next chapter. The last few years have been quite difficult for many organizations and people alike, but we have now successfully hosted our first fall fair since the start of the global pandemic. The majority of responses to our fair has been one of approval, but we still have things we can look to improve upon. David has done a wonderful job leading our organization for the past 5 years and I hope that we can continue on the well built foundations he has laid out for us.

I would like to begin by thanking our many volunteers this past year. You have been amazing and without all of you we as a society would not be able to operate.

As president, it is my job to oversee the operation of the society and carry out the decisions made by the board of directors and our general membership. The Directors are a crucial part of our organization as it is their job to create the vision, goals and strategy for our organization. They also ensure that the policies and guidelines we follow are clearly laid out for us. This can be a difficult, but rewarding job, but I have the utmost confidence in all of you. General members, you are the backbone of our society, without your support we would not be able to be an active organization in our great community. Without our volunteers the fair would seem like an impossible task, however we are lucky that in our community we have so many great individuals who volunteer and strive to make our community a wonderful place to live. Each role is vital to the running of our society so please understand that no matter the size of your role, you are an important one to us.

I have included a calendar of events to outline all of the dates we will need over the next year. Beside each of the meetings, you will see that I have added a note regarding the topics that meeting will cover. This will be our set schedule and a change will only occur with-in a minimum of 1-week notice. At our meetings I encourage everyone to participate and voice any opinion or concern they may have.
The goals of my presidency will hopefully become more clear as we venture forth into the next year, but these areas will include:

  • Increasing our volunteer base
  • Attracting the younger generations
  • Improving community relations
  • Re-structuring
  • Planning time
  • Continuing the “Building our Future Project”

If you need to contact me, feel free to e-mail me at BrandonPenkauskas@gmail.com

I look forward to what great things 2023 will bring us!

The Ambassador committee would like to thank Tammy Scherpenzeel for her 20 years of service to the committee. She has been a wonderful “Fair Mom” to many ambassadors and ambassador contestants over the years and we are lucky to have had her chair our committee for so long!

We would like to wish Tammy well in her future endeavours and look forward to her advice as our committee continues to put on our annual ambassador competitions!
